The 12 Zodiac Signs
What is the Zodiac?
The zodiac is an imaginary belt in the sky through which the Sun appears to move over the course of a year. It is divided into twelve equal sectors of 30 degrees, each associated with a sign: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. These signs have roots in ancient Babylonian and Greek observation and are used in Western astrology to describe temperament, archetypes, and life themes. The zodiac provides a shared language for understanding seasons, cycles, and symbolic meaning – distinct from daily horoscope readings, which are one application of the signs.
